SMASH : * AN OPEN VERDICT. By Teleirrapli.—l'ross Association. ' Taihape, September The inquest on the Main Trunk accident concluded to-day. The Coroner said it would be an open verdict, and that it was no moro a finding against the Department than against the driver of tho train. The verdict would be that deceased was killed in a train smash on May It. caused by the failure of the pump action. There was insufficient evidence to show how or by what means that failure originated.
