HOUSES FOR SOLDIERS
A PALMERSTON NORTH PROPOSAL. The Finance Committee reported to tlio City Council last: evening:—"That they havo received a circular letter from the Palmcrstou North Borough Council nskiii!! that tliis council support the following resolution: 'That the Po.lmerstcm North liorough Council recommends tho Government whiyi making grants to returned soldiers tor the purpose of enabling them to purchase homos, that such grants shall only be given on condition that the money is utilised in tho establishment of new homes, and not for the. acquisition of dwellings already in existence.'" In connection with this resolution, tho Mayor said thnt the proposed 6chf.no of the council should bo forwarded to Palmerston North. Councillor M. P. Luckie stated that their scheme and the l'almerston North resolution wero two entirely .different matters. There was nothing in'common between them. The Mayor said that tho report of Via City Council might bo helpful. He n?ove<l that no embargo bo placed on returned soldiers acquiring ally houses tho council may erect, and this' was agreed to.
