This action.arose over the parent body's refusal to grant certain applications which l' tho.'committee recommended as cases suitable for. loans. The committee'con.tended that 'having a local knowledge of conditions generally they were , fully . qualified; to make proper applications, and , they condemned the' action of the ■ Wellington District Board for its alleged inconsistency and refusal to consider certain loans. The Press reports of the meeting were produced-at the last meeting of the Wellington District Repatriation Board, when the resignation of tho committee wns also received. After some discussion the following resolution was carried, and is tobe forwarded to tho chairman ;of the committee:—"The Wellington District Board has read the report in the 'Waipawo) Hail' of the resignation of the Waipawa local Committee and tho circumstances attonding same. This board was responsible, and not any official of the Department, for the .decisions come to' in tho cases therein referred to, and consequently takes'full responsibility for tho same. This board desires to express its regret that the Local Committee resigned without having first coinmunicat- • ed to the board any grounds it might have had for challenging tho decisions come to in the applications refused." Mr. C. W. Batten, district repatriation officer, informed a Dominion representative that an officer of tho Department would proceed to Waipawa to deal with the situation. .
