MAHENO HELD UP

i.FRJGSH DEMAND BY THE FIREMEN. By. Teleirraiih—Press Auoclation. I Dunedin, September IG. The Maheno/ which was to have sail«l for Svdney to-day, is still held up at, Port Chalmers. The delay is undorntood to be due to the notion of the firemen, who, with tho exception of fivn or six, refused to sail unless beds were provided for them free of charge, under tho award governing seamen and firemen. It has been the custom for many, years for the men to pay a small sum for beds, ns thoy were averse to using any but clean and newly Issued bedding. It is Btnted that the agreement provided definitely for this custom, so that tho action of the men conies as something in tho nature of a surprise.
