PROPERTY OF PRISONERS OF WAR
REGULATIONS FOB ADMINISTRATION. The regulations providing for the administration of'the property of prisoners of war by tho Public Trustee have been amended by an Order-in-Council. Tlio amendments provide that for the purposes iof the regulations the term "prisoner of war" shall mean:—(a) Any per-son-detained in New Zealand under thb order of a military or naval authority under-tho war regulations;' (l>) any person otherwise detained in New Zealand as a prisoner of war; (c) any alien enemy whoso arrest has been authorised by a military or naval authority under 'the war' reaulatioris oven though he has not been, actually arrested; (d) any person who.at a time while he was a prisoner of war: as above defined has been deported I from or ( liiis otherwise left New Zealand, whether before or after . tlio making of these regulations. All appointments now in force of the Public Trustee as the custodian of the property.of prisoners'of war under the regulations snail remain.in full force and effect. ...The Public Trustee, as the fiustodian.'of the property of a prisoner of-war. shall have full authority in his absolute discretion to make to or for the benefit of that prisoner of war or his wife, .or children such payments or disnostions of moneys in the hands of the Public Trustee and belonging to that prisoner 6f.ww.as the Public Trustee thinks exnedient. and proper.' So long as.the Public Trustee acts in.good faith in the. exercise of the powers, duties, and trusts--conferred or imposed upon", him the. custodian of the piopcrty. of a prisoner of war. he shall be wider np civil-liability either to that prisoner. nr i to anv creditor of.that prisoner, or to any other, person whomsoever! in respect of ...the. administration, or. 'disposition of such nronertv. 1
