Maxwell (Taranaki) seconded „ the remit. In doing so ho said I>Q thought that before land was permitted to be sold a sum of 10 per cent, should bo paid off tho mortgage by tho seller. -Mr. D. Jones (North Canterbury) thought that farmers should bo allowed , ; a frco hand in their transactions. _ Ho , could not (see how they could legislate upon such a matter. ~ Mr G. Sheaf (Dunsandel) oppored-tho motion. What ttoy should ami-at preventing, he said, were the operations ot "land sharks," -who, ho claimed, were the cause of all the trouble.
