INFECTIOUS DISEASES
DIPHTHERIA AND. MILD IN- • FLUENZA PREVALENT. ' • In the report for the Wellington health district for. the week ended at noon on Mondav the following infectious diseases were registered :—Diphtheria, 32 (9 in Wellington); influenza, 30 (3 mild cases in Wellington); measles, 7; pneumonia, 4; scarlet fever, 5; enteric; li; tuberculosis. 2, " . ' . .
In considering the above figures it inust ha remembered that the Wellington health district embraces Taranaki on the West Coast and us far north as Gisborno on the East Coast. . Of the thirty- cases of influenza reported only one Vas pneumonic, and two wo severe. The'rest were described as mild. Still, the fact that mild influenza is still fairly prevalent—many cases occur that are treated without calling in medical men, and. therefore are not reported—may be regarded as an indication that wo are not clear of the epidemic disease which took (Such a dreadful toll here in November last. Before that outbreak there- was a minor opidemic of mild influenza—not then understood to bo such. It therefore behoves people to take all reasonable ureeautions, to practise the principles of hygiene, and to take no risks if they have a suspicion that they are infected. It ■ is. for that purpose that the Public Health Department has reissued a circular to every householder bearing on the symptoms and treatmeut of influenza.
