Mr, E. Page, S.M., presided over a sitting of tho Magistrate's Court lickl yesterday. Bnily Foster was lined 20=. for drunk, cnuess, this being her, fifth conviction, and was lined a- further 20s. for com. milting a breach of ' lier prohibition order.
JW insobriety tiro first offenders wcro each fined lis., in default M hours' imprisonment, and another who failed to appear ifiis lined 10s., the amount of his lin.il. George Blything, against whom there was one previous conviction, was lined 103,, in default '18 hours' imprisonment
John Locey and Reginald Thomas, two frionds, {jot into an argument on Lambtun Quay ami endeavoured to settle the matter by resort to fisticuffs. Their pugilistic performance was brought to a, Kudden stop by the appearance of a policeman, who umsteil them. Yesterday they pleaded guilty- to the charge of threatening behaviour whereby a breach of : the peace was occasioned, and were each fined 305., in default tlireo days' imprisonment. iVillin.ni Canty and Francis H'Cniin, who were.also charged with threatening behaviour in tho Basin Ecserve, whereby a. breach of' tho peace was occasioned, pleaded guilty and were each tinsel 203. and 3s. expenses.
CIVIL 'CASES. Etuile C. Luclwig, represented by Mr. J. J. M'Grath, proceeded against Daniel Corunha, for whom Mr. H. l ! . O'Lcary appeared, to recover a sum of ■£& G=., in. respect of accountancy work done. After hearing eridenco tho Magistrate gavo judgment for plaintiff for £'i 13s. lid., with costs.
' A JERSEY HEIFER. Mr. W. GV Eiddell, S.M., heard the caso brought by Oswald Disley, dairyman, against Thomas Goodcy to recover £1, tha value of a Jersey heifer alleged to have been wrongfully detained by tho defendant, together with J& damages. The point in d:sputa was one of ownership, and after 'hearing part of the evidence His Worship adjourned the caso for a fortnight. Mr. I'. AV. Jackson appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. J. H. Putnam for tho defendant.

ALLEGED DAMAGE TO FURNITURE.
The hearing of the claim brought by A. Slriugleton against the New Zealand Express Company for the recovery of .£6l damages to furniture alleged to have been caused while being transported by the defendant company from Westport to Wellington was continued yesterday. Mi. J. Scott appeared for the plaintiff .and Mr. A. Blair for the defendant. After hearing evidence Mr. W. G, Riddell, S.M.,'reserved his decision.
SALE OF "CYCLE PUMPS. J. H. Flcckton and Co., indent agents and importers, Wellington, claimed to recover from E. D. Bennett, Kli Victoria Avenue, Wanganui, the sum of .£195 18s. in respect of the sale of 111 dozen cycle pumps. Mr. A. Gray, K.C., appeared ■', for the plaintiffs,, and Mr. -T. J\eave. : fpr the' deiendaut./ .-.-Several irift misses were heard; nml the' further -hearing was adjourned tor a week.
A TENEMENT CASE. Mr. E. Page, S.Mv, ordered A. Timmings to'deliver "up'possession of a tenement to T. P. Lyons by October 17 and also to pay Jiiii lis. accrued rent and costs. Bi'-LAW CASES. Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with tho by. law eases: Reginald Acton Adams was fined 10s.. and cos' "';. for leaving his motor-car standing in Lambton tjuay, and a similar line was imposed on him for having no tail light on nis car on tho same occasion.
For haying no lights on their vcliicies Patrick W. Chapman, Leslie Robert M'Citskcy, Arthur Tattle, und Wilfred Uwdmnu Talbot were each lined 10s. und 7s. costs; William Williamson, for driving an express without lights, was lined 30s. and costs 233.
For driving on the Hutt Road at an excessive speed G. K. Anson, A'. 2. Diuiock, A. M. Griggs, and A. Hey were enoh lined 20s. and costs 75.; Maud Lilian Cole, who did not appear, was fined 30s. and costs 75., and Norman Mackersey, who was alleged . to have driven his car at a speed of 50 miles per hour, was fined .£5 and' costs 7e. A. Hey was fined 10s. aiid costs' 7s. for driving ;it an excessive speed round tue junction of lloweii Street and Lambton liuay. . Randall Reid pleaded guilty to riding a motor-cycle on the wroii" Ride of the street, and was fined 20s. and costs 15s.
A fine of 20s.' and costs 7s. was imposed on Henry James M'Knin for driving a motor-ear past a stationary tramcar, and A. J. Doekery, for «. similar offence, was lined 10s. and 15s. costs. Charles D. Hargreaver. was convicted on two charges of plying for hire by passengers witnout Being licensed to do so, and was fined 10s. and Vs. costs on each chagc; on a third charge of being an unlicensed driver of a motor'vehicle plying for hire he was convicted and discharged. Leslie James Traill v,'iw fined 20s. and costs 7s. for plying for hire by passengers without a license. Robert Douglas Christie was convicted and ordered to pay costs amounting to £a 9s. for backing a motor-wagon in Cuba Street for a greater distance than was' required for the purpose of safety. Christie, while in charge of a P.O. motor-lorry, backed the vehicle a distance of 4ft. and collided with a motorcar standing behind it. Leonard Cloako was charged with plying for hire witn an unlicensed vehicle. Tho defendant pleaded not guilty and eaid. that ho was unaware that tho wagon, which was lent to a third party, was being used for hire. The information against him was dismissed.
WANDERING STOCK. For allowing stock to wander at Mir.v mar 'Frederick W. Boyd, Benjamin W. Dally, and 11. Free were «ncU fined 10s. and costs 75.; Patrick Kennedy and P. 11. Mohan were each fined as. and 7s. costs. A. Telford hail two charges preferred against him and was fined lis. and coats 7s. on the first, and 10s.. And costs 7s. on the second. J. Tolfard was ordered to pay Court costs, 75., a* his offenco was not' tho result of carelessness. Patrick- Donoghuo. for allowing a cow to wander, was lined 2Us. and costs 15s.
Philadelphia Las decided to abolish "sttmesteral nooks" at dances, and to prohibit "hugging and squeezing and contiguity of faces."
