Mr. Troup, who followed Mrs. Hislop, said, that they considered themsolvos fortunate in securing Mr. luwood as their director i for his wJwle training had been among' boys, and consequently ho undorstood them and realised tho fact that boys wero "not angels. Continuing, Mr. Troup said thai a great work lay before the institute and its possibilities for service woro very extensive. It dealt directly with the class of boys from which so I many of a nation's'great 'men sprung,' that of the workers, and who was to say what tho future might unfold for some of the boys whom it sheltered at the present time? One of the things which they wished to oncourago in a boy was to boliove in his own possibilities and to for the realisation of thoso possibilities... .Mr,.Troup did not allow Mr. Ihwood to lio under any misapprehension at* - to", what might bo:, before iiiin, for ho assured'him -that ho.would find much to do witlf.his days, from tho first thing in-the morning till'tho last thing nt night."-Mr;. Iteferring to tho boys, <ho expressed his intention, of furthering tho Cadet movement as much as possible, as he considered (hat it fostered much that was good in-boys,- and acted -as n safetyvalve for their superfluous energy. Contributing to tho programme wero Miss Olson, Mrs. Flockton, Mr. Lobb, and Mr. Clarkc-Johnstoh with songs, Miss I'ope recitations, and Miss Clachan pianoforte solos, supper being handed round at the conclusion of the items.
