THE ROUND-UP IN PROGRESS EXCITING INCIDENTS By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright London, September 12. Police and soldiers with full war kit searched for arms and ammunition oyer a wide area in Ireland, including Dublin, Londonderry, Donegal, Galway, Cork, and Skibbereen. Many parties of from ten to twenty soldiers made a systematic search of Londonderry, and discovered some firearms. Crowds followed tho troops, frequently stoning them. In one instance an officer prepared troops to nre a volley and the crowd scattered. An extra regiment has been drafted to County Galway and distributed at many points. Airmen hovered over Cmlway town during the raiding. Mr. O'Dohcrty, a Sinn Fein member of the House .01 Commons addressed the crowd during the search. At Donegal the police usetl their batons on the crowd. , The raids resulted in a stream of prisoners being sent into Dublin m military lorries. Messrs. O'Keefe' and Blythe, Sinn Fein members of Parliament, were arrested on the premises of the bmii iem headquarters in Dublin. ; Documents seized at Sinn Fein headquarters in Dublin included some relating to trade with America and France, and also evidence respecting the report ot Messrs. Walsh and Dunn, of tho IrishAmerican Commission, regarding alleged Irish atrocities, together with election registers and files of correspondence. The detectives searched all the persons on the premises, with the exception ot Mr. Arthur Griffith (Sinn Fein leader; and Mr. S. 0. Kelly, members ot the House of Commons, who.arrived (luring tho raid. ' , American and Sinn Fein flags were hung from the windows while the raid was in progress. The crowd occasion-

Staines, members of the House of Commons. _ The raids at Cork resulted in tho seizi ure of two dummy rifles and four haversacks. The police love down photographs of Mr. J. M'Guinness. FERMOY GARRISON CHANGED. (Rcc. September IS, 5.5 p.m.) London, September 13. Eight hundred of the Royal Irish Constabulary and two hundred soldiers' participated in Friday's ninety odd raids. Tho Buffs from Cork will relieve tho Skopshire Regiment at Fermoy.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
. COMMENT ON THE SITUATION London, September 13. The Irish Nationalist newspapers declaro that Lord French's drastic measures are useless. The outrages would end immediately if British authority' ceased. The Unionists welcome. Lord French's promises—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SINN FEIN DEFIANCE. (Rcc. September 15, 5.5 p.m.) London, September 13. Tho 'Irish News" (Belfast) says that "Lord French' is the prime mover in this wretched business. He is nothing better than a poor pliant instrument in the hands of tho Carson gang.'' Mr. Griffiths, the Sinn Fein vice-presi-dent, in a speech at Dublin, sold he did not care a rap for the suppression of tho "Dail Eireann" (tho Sinn Fein Par lament). TRADE UNION CONGRESS WANTS "SELF-DETERMINATION." (Rec. Scptembor 15, 5.5 p.m.) London, September 13. The Trado Union Congress unanimously adopted Mr. J. H. Tnomas's and Mr. Robert Smillio's resolution ot sympathy with Ireland's demand for freedom and with their Irish brethren in the hour of repression, and demanding that tho bovornment nba-iidon military rule and introduce self-determinalion as tho > only means whereby tho Irisn people can work out their emancipation—Aus.-N.Z..
