THE FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA
COMPETITORS DISHEARTENED. London, September 11. Australian competitors for the flight to Australia aro greatly disheartened-by the apathy of the Imperial Air Authorities in tho matter of assisting the venture. The authorities dccline to allow the aviators to fly over foreign countries. It is ascertained that tho . Sopwith Company has already ! expended approximately ,£7OOO on its preparations for the flight. As there aro six competitors, it is estN mated that the initial rntlay will not ba far short of JC'SO,OOO. If a flight' is to bo undertaken this year, it must begin before October 15, otherwise the weather will preclude the attou.pt until next year. If the Australians desire to competo for the prize offered, it will be for the Commonwealth Government to .exercise its influence ■with the Imperial authorities, in order to prevent the ides falling through—Aus.-N.Z.
