• FROM LYTTELTOX GAOL: By TeleiriiDli—l'rees AaincUllon. ■ Christchurch, September 12. ■ A prisoner named Reginald Matthews, who wus sentenced at Christchurch on .Augiist'S to nine months" imprisonment for indecent exposure, escaped from Lyttelton Gaol this afternoon. From the prison drying yard he obtained several hummock ropes'and ft pair of blanket*, which he 1 joined toget her nnd threw over the wall. He clambered up this improvised rope, dropped on to the road, and made for the hills. Several search .parties set out, but the mist on the hills favoured the escapee, who had nut been recaptured, at 11 ; p.m,
