DENTAL OFFICERS AND WAR GRATUITIES
Sir,—Your sub-leader this morning points out the fact that there are some hot-headed and impulsive members of tlio Returned Soldiers' Association; Perhaps tliis is inevitable, but with regard to the abovo matter permit 0110 the courtesy of a few lines. A member of tlio U.S.A. thought (it to make «•» nistinc'tion withregard to gratuities payable to dental officers. True, his remarks were drowned in dissenl, and rightly so. Strange that a man who would probably vehemently assert liis democratic principles should propose such a distinction. It is always distasteful for a true man to blow Jiis own trumpet, but for tlio information of tlio general public I would like to state that the New Zealand ' Dental Corps claims that they made 33 l-3rd per cent, of the N.Z.E.F. fit to figlit. This claim can bo substantiated, and as a matter, of fact is recognised by all fairminded members of the N.Z.E.F. It must be perfectly obvious to the thinking section of the public that a man could not servo as a dontal officer at a base, on the high sea, with the division in France, to say nothing of under fire in Gallipoli, and at tho same time liandlo a riflo in the front lino trench. Enough - said—l am; etc., "ONE OF THOSE DENTAL OFFICERS." September 10, 1919.
