AUSTRALIAN WAR STORES
» London, September 9. The authorities are thoroughly 'satisfied with tho resuU of tho experimental sales of Australian war stores. The initial sale disclosed tho existence of n rine of Ea>t End dealers, which endeavoured to crowd out small buyers, and keen the nrices down; but tho introduction of small lots tu suit the requirements of the individual householders had tho effect r,r combating tho operations of the ring. This plan, however, makes the Disposal Board's task slower, but omimensilion is gained in the better nric.es. There is little demand for overcoats and breeches, and prices are so far Ixilow tho value that these articles will bo shiDned to Australia. Yesterday's sale of horses averaged ,£54 per head. The cood prices obtained for Australian, comnarcd with tho Imperial Army horses, is entirely duo to tho splendid care the Australians took of tho animals.—Ans.N.Z. Cable Assn.
