VARIOUS GRANTS AUTHORISED. . A meeting; of the Wellington Red Cross" Committee was held iu the Mercer Street Depot yesterday afternoon, Mr. T. Young (chairman) presiding. Thero/wcro also present Mesdames Adams, J. P. Firth, Moorhouse. L.Blundell, M. Myers, J. P. Luke (Mayoress), Miss Sybil Nathan (lion, secretary). Messrs. Holmes, M'unt, Seville. V'eiteh, Bickl'ord (Auckland), and Tripp. '> A letter was received from Mrs. T. H. Lowiy (Napier) asking for a grant of .£SOO to meet expenses in connection with the Napier Soldiers' Hospital, where a fowlhousc had been built and an asphalt tennis court and a garden laid.put. The expenses Üb'lli) hud up to tho present bs.cn met by the winnings of Desert Gold. Tho grant of .£'s(lo was made. A u'rant of £1000 was made to the Fentherston Red Cross Committee for hospital requirements, otc., and a grant nf ,£IOO to the Mastcrton Committee pending further details. A letter from Colonel Wylie, asking if the committee would continue. to send to Trenthani Hospital poultry and fish for tho very delicate men (twelve chickens and 80lb. of fish) twice a week until the Government arrangements wero in workinsr order, was read, and tho couimitt.eo airreed to continue the supplies. A further request for eight Axminster russ for the ollicer-palicnts' ward ,was also agreed to. A letter was read from the matron of the Miramar Hospital (now closed) contuinina* a statement of expenses up to Aiurust 31 of this year, and enclosing a moliev order for .£35 and some odd shil- • lines (the cash in hand) for the Red • Cross Fund. The matron at the-same time exuressed her thanks for tho generous way in which the' committco had ..! granted everything she had asked for in the wav of comforts for the men and had supplied all their wants in every direction. In discussing what was to he • done with somo hundreds of sets of pyjamas which the committco had had word were i storied in "K" shed, having been discarded from returning troopships, a sub-com-mittee was appointed to make arrangements for sorting out all thn,t were worth savins,', as there were many useful ways in which they could be. disposed The resignation of Mrs. Elder (Waikanae) as a member of tho committee was accepted with regret. Mrs. Elder is ' leaving tuo district. A grant of JiiUi was made to the . Hawera committee to bo expended upon requirements for soldiers in hospital. A letter was rend from the Red Cross Commissioner for Now Zealand (tho Hon. Hoaton Rhodes), written from London, in which ho stated that he was subscribing , on behalf cf tho New Zealand Red Cross to the articles of association of the League of Red Cross Societies of Genova. In subscribing to tho articles of association tho executive was not committed to anv liability and was free to sever its connection at any time. ■ Colonel Rhodes stated that the League or Red Cross Suuioties was to meet at Genova once in every two years. The action oi the Red Cross Commissioner was approved of by tho committee. Colonel Rhodes also wrote of the sale of .£15,000 worth of New Zealand Red Cross goods at- Home, the money to be handed over to tho Red Cross in New Zealand.
