Liout.-Colonel J". H. Wlryte, D.5.0., D.C.M., N.Z.S.C, has been appointed to the staff with the position of officer commanding the Wellington military district, in succession to Lieut.-Colonel F. H. Hume, retired. Dr. F. G. Bell, of Blenheim, will leave on a visit to England by-tlio Athenic on September 18. ~ i Mr. J. A. Neame, of the, tutorial staff of the Wanganui College, accompanied by his wife, leaves for Home by the Essex this month. Mr. Snodgrnss. Mayor of Kelson, and Mr. W. H. Wilkes, Mayor of Richmond, arrived yesterday to attend the Municipal Associations' Conference. The report published on September 8 that Mr. Lin Shih Yuan, Consul for China; is en route for China is not correct. Mrs. Lin and Miss Lin (the latter beine the Consul's niece) are on their way to China, and Mr. Lin is accompanying them as far as Sydney. Mr. Lin will return to Wellington in ajxmt two weeks. Mr. R. B. Jackson, of Nelson, is at present on a visit to Wellington.
