SENIOR CADETS
B.IG TOURNAMENT IN NOVEMBER. Cantain W. M. Bell (Group 5, 0.C.) and_ the officers of Senior Cadet companies are arranging a big tournament and ijfild dav for Senior Cadets, to be held on tho Basin Reserve on a Saturday yet to be arranged in November.. It is interestinc to learn that there is a auickenins- interest in the junior arm of the Defence forces in Wellington, and the officers of the several companies (there are twentv-six in all) are keen on having this opnortunity of proving the efficiency of their rnsnoctive commands. Small 11ri7.es are to be awarded, but in addition to these it is hoped that sufficient monev will be available from • tho gate recsints to enablo the management to rive monetary nrizes for company purnoses as well as to establish a fund for group purposes. Later in the year and earlv next year tournaments of an open character are likely to bo held in other oarts of the Dominion (such as .the Easter tournev at Palmerston North), and it is out of tho group fund to bo established that the exnense3 of Wellington's (Group 5) reDresentation will be financed. Tho GDirit of competition is to be engendered among the Cadets at once in two wavs, firstly by tho number of entrants for the various events, and secondly through the number of tickets they sell for the tournament, which is bound to attract considerable attention oh the Dart of the public. The programme for tho tournament will include the following events:—Rifle exercise (for teams of twelve men), tug-of-war (teams of ten); semaphore com- • netitinn (teams of four), Morse signalling comnetition (teams of four), route march (comnanv teams of twelve men); bugle cQinoetition. alarm race, squad drill (teams of twelve), and relay race (teams of four). Groun orders announce the appointment of Mr. Arthur A. Thomson to be second lieutenant of tho Scots College Cadets: and' Company Sergeant-Major Edward A. Saosford to bo second lieutenant jnf the Wellington Boy Scouts Senior 1 Cadets Company. Lieutenant S. D. Rogers has been transferred from the Lower Hutt to' the Marfnn Senior Cadets, and Second Lieutenant F- W. Mothcs from Petone Technical School Senior Cadets to the Reserve of Ofiicors. Second Lieutenant Sidney N. Gillman has resisned his commission to becomo a cadet at tho Royal Military Collego of Australia. Staff-Sereeant-Majar J. J. Corkill has lieen aopointed to Group 5 as from Ancust 3. ■ ■
