During the war period amounts totalling 12255 were contributed to various patriotic purposes by the Wairarapa Racing Club. The Government tax for the past year amounted to -£3021. AVise and Steele were, accorded a vote of thanks for their donation of an honours board. It was decided that the match committee have full wiwer lo make rules and conditions for club competitions, and that same lie limited to two bowls, and to include handicap and champion singles. Mr. Edward Chew, who died at Carterton on Wednesday evening, had been a resident of the Wairarapa for upwards of fortv vear;,. following sawmilling operations. He was a' native of ltoyton (Lancashire). and was .07 years of age. He came, to New Hoalaud oil the 'Oliver Laua ill 1858. and resided at Upper ICaiwarra. now Ngaio. His wife died .in 191)1. and the surviving family comprises two daughters and four sons.
