AUSTRALIAN AGENT-GENERAL
THE QUESTION OP A FEDERAL BUREAU. London, September 3. As tho question is one of policy between tho Government of the Commonwealth and tho various States, the Agents-General do not caro to disouss the proposal to trausfor the work of. the agencies to a Federal authority. There is a genera, feeling that tho agencies do much for tho peculiar interests of their respective States that a Federal authority- co>.!d not .do. There are many difficulties to bo cleared away before the Commonwealth could undertalco an emigration policy that would satisfy the special requirements of tlie individual States. It is pointed out that Canada first started witli a High Commissioner, but experience soon proved that tho inetrests of the provinces were better .served by tho establishment of separate agents.—Aus.-N.Z.
