Crosse (Napier) filling the second »nd third places.

The weather cleared up for the afternoon, when conditions were ideal. . .; . , In the final round Douglas was first away, and played first-cluss golf, but failed to get .the greens.going out. Opening with a 5 and a 1, he .reached the turn in ■40,.i)laying;perfect golf.:' Going.home, his putting improved, and ho finished in 78, an excellent score. His three at the eleventh, 410 yards, was brilliant golf. M'Ewen played well for the go. and looked likely to do better. ' Clements, ruined a beautiful 38 out by bsd lies coming home. _ Duncnn broke his club against a postin the'first round,, but returned a good ficoro under tho handicap. His piay is improving, nnd before the week is orer may striko top form. Morpeth was leading'previous to the final round by two strokes, but Douglas took the gallery. , His start was bad-two 6'b. Morneth was not putting well, and arrived on the 16th green faced Ly three threes to tie. Then he holed a curly nutt from the cornel- of the green, and followed it up by lipping tho hole for two nt the- 17th, and was faced at. the Inet hole—a bogey 4—with three to tie. A fine mashie shot was played J .o within four vards of the pin, and after carefullv shiding his-putt, nmid great excitement he hit the ball, which hung on the lin.of the hole, and then dropped in. It was a brilliant effort, and Mornetlwoeo to the occasion to tie for the oncn chomnionship for the first time in New Zealand. .Clements finished third. His first bad round nut him too far behind. His final effort was uood. but he finished badly. Douglas and Morpeth have only returned from tho front a few month?.
