TROPHIES
QUESTION OP DISTRIBUTION. Until the arrival in the Dominion of nil war trophies tho Defence. Department will not bo ia ;i position to allocate to tho various centres concerned tho German field guns which are at present on view in front of tbo Town Hall. Tlio caaturcd war material which 'is in the possession of the New Zealand military authorities in London and Egypt is noming to hand in instalments by each returning transport, and is being carefully checked, classified, and stored, by the Dei'cute Department, at Wellington, in readings for Hie time when disSribution c.iui bo made. Naturally, it will not be possible for allocations to be made until all tie material arrives, and it is seen what there is to distribute. Last woek tho London Headquarters were asked by cablo(Tum wiwm'tho shipments were likely tp bo completed, andttho reply was that the. War Office- could name no date, but thai tho Dominions' claims were receiving first consideration. It is quito possible that certain material has yet to bo brought over to England from Prance. It may thus be a. month or liwo beforo tho tronhpies can be distributed.
Meanwhile, the material is being well looked after by tho Defence Department, which is taking a Irnen intprest in the matter and it is hoped that there will be sufficient trophies of somo description or anntiier, particularly guns, and light nnd heavy nitmhiue-tcuns. to satisfy tho patriotic yearnings of all localities.
