MESSRS. HINE AND NOSWORTHY ....:' APPOINTED TWO OTHER SELECTIONS ■;;:;;,. PENDING Mr. J. B. Hine and Mr. W. Nosworthy have been appointed to vacancies in tlie Ministry. This announcement was made by the Prime Minister last night 'at a meeting" of the Reform Party. Mr. Massey informod his party also that positions had been offered also to two other members of the party, but the nogotia- . tions bad- not yet been concluded, the members conoerned having asked for a little ttrno ,ia which to' consider tho matter. I i The Prime Minister announced that Mr.' Herries would hand over the Railway Department to Mr. Massey, and that Mr. Massey would hand over .Finance to ' gir James Allen. Mr. Herries would continue as Native Minister. After tho meeting Mr. Massey said that ho had taken the party fully into his confidence, and apparently members had been satisfied. •• THE APPOINTEES. Mr. John Bird Hine entered Parliament in 1208, as member for Stratford, the seat ho still represents in the House. He was chairman of the Puiblio Accounts Committee while that committee was working. He volunteered for service early in tho war, and when appointment was offering for an officer of Bis rank he was accepted. He has been on service in Palestine with the. Now Zealand Mounted Brigade almost continuously during the whole of the cam- •'■ paign, completing his service with the rank of major. He was severely wounded in the early part of the campaign, and in the period of convalescence he returned to New Zealand on furlough. Mr. William Nosworthy has been member for Ashbuxton since, he first entered the House in 1908. During the strenuous times soon after the party came into power in 1912 he served as junior whip with Mr. Guthrie as his senior, and since Mr. Guthrie joined the Ministry Mr. Nosworthy has been regarded as the only whip. Since the days of the National Government party whips havo had no duties, however. Mr. Nosworthy is a 1 farmer, but he had a long business training in commerce before he became .a !anner.
