NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING FIRST DAY'S PLAY By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, September !. The New Zealand championship golt -meeting commenced at the Waiohiki links to-day, when the first and second rounds of the Open Championship and Amateur Championship wore played. The courso was in splendid order, hut the strong wind which was blowing prevented low scoring. E. S. Douglas (84, 84—168) and T. A. Clements (89, 80—169) lead the professionals, and S. Morpeth (77. 81—158), 11. E. Cross (82, 82-161), K. Tareha (84-, 80-104), and ■H. B. Lusk (91, 79-170) the amateurs. ' ' Auckland won tho Williams Cup. for ftrai-nien teams, with a score of 340. To-morrow the third and fourth rounds of the Open Championship will bfl completed, and the best 32 amateur scorers will qualify, for the Amateur Championship.
