The number of narrow escapes from serious accidents through lack of warning bolls at some railway crossings nl Pnimerston North was further added tf this morning, when Mr. John Belt lmd a collision with an engine at the Duke Street crossing. Mr. Bett was driving » motor-car down Duke Street towardii Chmch Street, and was just about to crovs the metals when the front portion of the car was struck by nil engine coming from a siding. The impact was sufficient to (urn the front of the cm round and drag it a few yards down tin line, with the result that'the motor wa( considerably damaged, the chassis beilif pulled diagonally across tlio springs, while the mudguards were badly benl and the battery ta stripped oil' the running board, fortunately Mr. Betl was unhurt, but his escape was a Idas'- miraculous one. Owing to tlicliootl of the car being up and a stron" wind blowing, Mr. Bett. did not hear the engine approaching until it struck the car.
