Lieutenant (temporary Captain) G. C. Felton. sth (Wellington) Regiment, _ has been promoted to the rank of captain. Having resigned his position as auditor to' the Cliristchurch Chamber _oi Commerce, after about 18 years' servics, Mr. G. E. Way was presented, at tho Diamond Jubilee dinner of the chamber, with a silver inkstand oil behalf of the members, by Mr. I'. Davidson, in appreciation of his services.
Mr. J. R. Chatterton, who was boot manneer for Messrs. L. C. Browne and Co. was f'arewelled by the members of the staff on the eve of his departure for Auckland, where lie is to manage a boot branch for G. Fowlds, Ltd. Jlr. A gentleman who will be greatly missed in Government officials circles will l:o Mr. George Robertson. superviser of new business for New Zealand for the Government Life Insurance Department, and manager for the Wellington district, who retired from the service on Saturday. Mr Kobertson joined the Department on April 1, 1881, and by his, special ability and. energy attained to his late position six years later, so that ho has seen tlio Department grow from small beginnings to ft very .large and remunerative section of liho State's enterprises. The death occurred suddenly at Greymouth on Saturday of Mr. Alfred Hudson Mellor, District Traffic Manager for tlio Eailway Department. Tlio late Mr. Mellor was born in .England in Iblil, and before coming to Now Zealand had eipoi'ienco' with tiiie Midland and NorthJjastcrn Railways. He arrived at Port Chalmers in.the ship British Queen, in 1883, and joined the Now Zealand Railway scrvico in December 8 that year, He was made Audit Inspector in 'Wellington a(i the beginning of 18' JO, and fivo years later was appointed l trallic clerk at Wanganui. in 191)8 ho camo to Wftlingtonas goods agent, and on' January 15. IDIS, he was transferred to Greyniouth as District Trallic Manager, lis is survived by a widow, one son, Mr. V. Mellor. of Greymouth, and three daugh-ters-Mrs. Len Hlundell (Wellington) and Misses Dorothy and Mary Mellor.
