Poison mado an interesting 'statement relative, to the -wealth ot the farmers. Ho said that there were '80,1-1G farms in New Zealand. Fifteen 1 thousand of these wero small holdings, and tho balance employed labour to the extent of So,oM)men. Prior to the war farm labour was available at a wage ranging between 2os. and 355. per week. Now, some men were receiving over .63 per week and found. , The farmers paid ovor .£3,000,000 per annum extra in wages alone, not to mention the' enhanced prices for all materials used on a farm. The increased value of the exports ' was ,£5,000,000, and tho increased cost of labour was between £3,000,000 an 3 ,£4,000,000. So much for the alleged war. profits.
