AN APPEAL FOB REASON
Br TcleirriiDh~PreßE Aasoointlon. Christchurch, August 31. Mr. William Pryor, secretary of the New Zealand Coal Mine-owners' Association, has sent the following telegram to Mr. J. Arbuckle, secretary, Miners' Federation. Wellington:—'"lnformation received from various mining districts' indicated that as a result of tho advice riven by tho representatives of your federation it lias been decidcd to adopt a go-sloiv policy throughout the coal mines of tho Dominion Irom next Monday. Tho adoption of such a jolicy will still further decrease the conl supply, arid serious increase the price of coal to tho consumers. Tho New Zealand Coal Mine Association will regard the adoption of such tactics by the -Jiiners as illegal, and a serious injury to the community, and may bo compelled to lake such action as might result in tho dismissal of workers who refuse or fail to maintain their norjnal output. My association hopes, however, that wiser counsels will prevail, anil that the course proposed will not be adopted. It is suggested that your federation should take the necessary steps to have tho dispute dealt with on consitutional lines by having it jeferred to Conciliation Commissioners in the several industrial districts to deal with."
