HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS TO BE
SAVED. • London, August l! 9. Mr. J. R. Clynes pooh-poohs Mr. Lloyd George's "alarmist letter," \vhich may possibly result in a few thousand dismissals. "Great decisions," ho says "are needed. We must try to save hundreds of millions. . It requires a daily shock to keep the House of Commons awake. The Navy, Army, and Air Force Estimates, approaching COO millions, must be tackled, and the expensive policy in Ireland and Russia must be changed." Mr. Clynes urged that Parliament should be summoned at tho beginning instead of the end of October.
Lieutenant-Colonel C. L. Malonn,-, a Coalition Liberal member of the House of Commons, demands that the Liberals shall leave the coalition aimless a drastic policy of retrenchment is adopted.—A.us.N.Z..Cable Assn.
