"MENTIONS" IN DISPATCHES
$ CERTIFICATES TO BE AWARDED. It has been decided by tho Imperial Army Lounral to issue a eertificato to all personnel of the.Navy, Army, and Eoyal Air Jjojrce, and to members of the Indian, Dominion, Colonial, and Egyntian I'orces, who from time to time have "been' 'mentioned" in the military dispatches during the war by a commander in tho neld. Certificates will also bo issued to members of certain recognised societies and organisations, such as the British ■Bed Cross.Society, the Y.H.C.A. and 1.W.C.A.,- and to British civilians of both sexes who have similarly been mentioned." In order to simplify the preparation oE certificates, a separate certificate will be issued in respect o! each mention" in the "London Gazette" which the individual may .have received during the war, and the entrv of the name, unit, etc., of tho individual on the certificate will follow identically the form in which the name appeared i'u the London Gazette." The preparation and issue of the certificates will necessarily occupy a considerable time, but they will ho dispatched in due course to all who are en. titled to receive them, and meanwhile no application by individuals is desired or is necessary. It will not bo possible to prepare the certifiwiies in the chronological order in which the Mention Lists wero published in tho "London Gazette," and it may happen, therefore, in many cases that an individual who has earned more than ono "mention" during the war may receive the certificate for a recent "mention" prior to that for a mention"-awarded earlier in the war. In such a ease it is not necessary for the individual to bring the fact to no(ice, and all certificates earned will Iμ' , dispatched in due course, as stated above Ihe preparation of. the certificates will be undertaken under nrriiiippinents to bo made by the War Office, and the certificates ns they become available for issue will be forwarded in batches to the Department of State or formation concerned, for dispatch to the individual or to tho next-of-kin, as tho case may.be.
