RUGBY RULES

DR. THACKER'S REMARKS RESENTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. / Auckland, August 27. The remarks of Dr. Thicker, M.P., concerning the Auckland llugby Union when welcoming tUe Australian League teani at Ohnstchurch on Tuesday were taken strong exception to by tho management committee of the Auckland union to-night. The following resolution was carried: "That this union resents any suggestion that may be contained in' the Press Association report of Dr. Thacker's remarks in _ regard to this union playing, League rules, or that there is any intention of doing so. On- the contrary, this union reiterates its contention that the Auckland modifications played during the past three years are simplv in'the direction of improved Rugby Union football, inasmuch as, with tho exception of the rule relating to 'kicking into touch,' tliey are merely directions to referees to interpret existing rules in a particular way,"
