TECHNICAL EDUCATION BOARD
ALTERATION OF CONSTITUTION
References, more or less, vague, have been made recently to the pending change in the constitution of the Technical Education Boards throughout the Dominion, a change-which is being mado by Government regulations, on the grounds that in many cases the boards numerically are becoming unweildy. The change as far as tho Wellington Technical Education Board is concerned will, if tho regulations aro strictly eniorcea, reduce tho membership from 19 to 15. The present constitution, of the board is as follows: City Council, 8; Education Board, G; Industrial Association, 2; New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, l; Institute of ,Architects, lj and school committees, 1! . The constitution as set out; in the nevr, regulations provides for this following: representation : Education Board, G; City Council, G; parents of students, 2; contributing bodies, 1. Hitherto tho custom has been for any body contributing .£lO per annum or more to a technical board to claim and have representation. on tho "oard, and this lias led to tho growth of boards in some parte of New- Zoaland beyond the number required to efficiently conduct the business. , The new regulations have been su»iected to criticism in some instances, and It is likely that tho matter will be thrashed oiit at the conference of technical school boards to be held next month.
