WORK OF PALMERSTON PATRI- * OTIC COMMITTEE .By Telegraph-Special Correspondent.' Palmerston North, August 26. The annual meeting of tho Mayoress's Patriotic Committee was held lust night, Tho report stated that much, work had been accomplished by the 'various guilds during the yoar, and special thanks were dun to the many lady helpers who had assisted in providing comforts for soldiers. Many letters of appreciation had lwen received from both officers and men. There lias beeu dispatched to soldier,? in Egypt and France 5500 parcels, ami large panels of clothing had been distributed to soldiers' wives and children, while the surplus had been distributed sinco the armistice amongst returned soldiers and families. The great need at present was for a motor-car for the Soldiers' Hospital, and the Red Cross Committee was at present considering tho matter of purchasing ono, and recommended that o, contribution of *850 should be given from the fund, and the balance allowed to lie in the bank in case of any urgent cases cropping up in the future. , Donations to Mayoresses fund: Balance brought forward, X 2.'10 15s.- Bd.; donations from town and country schools, £115 li' 3. 10(1.; "All Black" social, i! 216 lib. The expenditure amounted tii .t]B7s lis. Id., leaving a balanco of C £!M<> 3s. 2d., while there was also "a bniancc of -£119 2s. Bd. in the.guild account. The report and bal«nce-slioet were adopted, anil it was resolved to donate i'so towards the- purchase of a motorcar for an invalid soldier, .£IOO for clothing, and .CIO for the purchase of tables for the Soldiers' Club. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Mayoress (Mrs. J. A. Nash) and those who had assisted her.
