CONSTRUCTION WOBK AT OPOTIKI UEGED. By Telegia.ph—Pi-eas Aasociation. Opoiiki, August 26. After a lengthy discussion on railway matters, a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last night passed the following motion:—"That this meeting strongly protests against the slow progress being made in the construction of the East Coast railway, and urges on tho Departmont tho urgent nectssitj of commencing construction work at Opotiki, in order to give this end of the Bay of Plenty facilities for having etoek couveyed to the freezing works at "Wliakatane; also linking up with the Tanentua line, 7 to aid in the opening up of cheap, undeveloped idle land .in the Opotiki district." At the same meeting, a. member stated that southern land-seeKera were under an erroneous impression that there was ehcep sickness in the Opotiki district. The president of the chamber, Mr. T. Tabb, stock agent for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency , Company, stated emphatically that there was not, and never had been, anything of this kind iu Opotiki County or its vicinity.
