HARRY LAUDER NOT COMING
LETTER TO SCOTTISH SOCIETY'S OHIEF. Chief Alec Campbell, of tho Scottish Society, who has. been in communication with Sir Harry Lauder, the eminent comedian, lias received the following letter written on August 13, from Sydney.— "My Dear Mr. Campbell,—They say thirteen is an unlucky number; it is unluckv at this time, because I write you to the effect 1 am unablo to visit Now Zealand. First I was held tip by the 'flu,' then shipping conditions make it impossible for me to pirt back my American dates and get to New. Zealand. I have also had to put- West Australia, also Tasmania, from my present tour. I can tell you all this is most -unfortunate. I was looking forward to my New Zealand tour, and meeting 'auld freens and makiu' new anes'; but there, the aftermath of war has its drawbacks. I may be prevailed upon at a later date In take another tour in lieu of the postponement I have had to make, but meantime I must carry out my original plan: if everything failed, to return Home via America ami South Africa; which arrangement I have now completed. This news I know will be wholly unwelcomo in New Zealand; but I am a young man yel: (just fed twenty), and, if spared, I shall hope to return; but meantime my Hirfilnml glen calls for some personal attention; my horses, coos, and sheep are a' weariein' to see me, and London is colling me, too—Givo the folks my love. Your friend (Sgd.) Harry Lauder."
