TERRIFIC EXPLOSION
BUSINESS PREMISES WRECKED EXCITEMENT IN CHRIST'CHURCH V~. Telegraph—press Association. Chrislchurch, August 23. This afternoon people in Cathedral Square wore startled by a "terrific- explosion, which occurred in tho premise? occupied by Mr. W. J. Bull,, typewriter expert, in Chancery Lane,' adjoining Everybody's Picture Theatre. The theatre was holding a session at. the time, find the audience included many children, who were considerably startled. A panic was narrowly averted. The whole of Mr. Bull's workshops and office were badly damaged. A youth jinmed Charles M'GHastan was cleaning a typewriter with benzine, when the spirit ignited, .and caused the explosion. M'Gtehah ivas badly burnt about the face, and received several severe cuts. He was removed to tho hospital. Large sections of tho walls of the workshop were blown out. and the ceil-' lug fell in. Atl the windows in the immediate vicinity were shattered. The wall dividing the workshop from Everybody'? Theatre, bulged out, but did not collapse.
