ME. HENDERSON TO CONTEST THS SEAT. (Rec. August 23, 11,5 p.m.) London, August 23. Mr. Arthur Henderson is opposing Mr. P. SI. B. Fisher (New Zealand):iat the Widnes by-election. The former declared that in connection with his visit to; Russia in 1917, tho Cabinet authorised liim to replace the Ambassador at Petrogracl at a salary of XSOOO. He had ascertained that Cabinefs dissatisfaction with tho Ambassador was duo to a misapprehension—ho therefore refused the post, and subsequently resigned from Cabinet Min- i istership on <£5000 a year, rather than sacrifice principles—Aus.-N.Z;;v. Cable Assn.
