BRITAIN'S REDUCED COAL OUTPUT
STATEMENT BY MR. SMILLIE. • (Rec. August 25. 0.40 a.m.) London, August 24. Mr. SmJllie (president -of the Miners' Federation) denies that the miners are responsible for the deoreased output of coal, which is duo to the mine owners not developing the mines during the war. Ifr. Smillie believes that tho output will materially increase soon, owing to tho present developing work. The miners realise that the nation's pressing need is a large oi^tput.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. 1 NATIONALISATION UNSOUND, ' SAYS LABOUR LEADER, (Rec. August 25, 0.40 a.m.) London, August 24. Mr. W. A. Appleton, secretary to the General Federation of Trades Unions, states that nationalisation is unsound economically, and would be disastrous from every standpoint of view. State monopoly wtas the most oppressive of all monopolies. He urges the, workers to pause before it is too late, and refuse to listen to the extremists.—Aus.-N.Z. Cubble Assn.
