DISCONTENT IN JAPAN
WARNING ARTICLES IN THE . - NEWSPAPERS. Tokio, August 22. The rising prices and the scarcity of houses is causing widespread discontent, especially among the middle classes, and serious outbreaks are feared. The police dispersed mass meetings of teachers in several towns, which were protesting against inadequate salaries.
The newly-formed salaried Men's Union in Tokio demands that profits exclusive of bank intesre-st on capital, shall be equally divided between employers and workers. The newspapers warn the (iovernment of preparations for the advent of Socialism, due to tho enormous increases in tlip.coet of rice rind cotton-ojoth.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
