MAN COMMITS SUICIDE. By I'cß'srrapH—X'r°Ba Ar.sor.latloß Napier, August 24. At Omahu on Saturday man named Alfred Towdrell, who had been acting in a strange manner lately, blew off the top of his head with a shot-gun. As a result of complaints received concorning Powdrell's behaviour, the Natives being nfraid that he would shoot somebody, Constable Murray went out, and when within 30 yards of the deceased the latter put his head over the muzzle of a gun which had beon standing near by, and pushed the trigger with a stick. Death was instantaneous. MAN CRUSHED TO DEATH. Bv Telecrapb—l'ress Association. Taihape, August 23. Shortly after midday on Saturday a middle-aged man named Claudo Reach was run over by a rake of trucks at Taihape. The trucks were being shunted from a ballast train, and all passetl over him, crushing him to death. 'Deceased belonged to Rangataua, and only recently returned from active service. Tho body of a soldier named Linton Runciman. who lmd won tho D.C.M., who was drowned ill the ereok at Makariki station on Sunday, was found yesterday.
ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. Jaok O'Laughlin, a boy of six. living in BliaabetK Street, was accidentally shot in the right arm and side on Saturday morning by his brother, who was handling a loaded rifle, lie was taken to tho hospital. 'Last night his condition was not considered to bo serious.
