ON THE "LIBERALS"
AVTIAT LABOUR SAi'S. "Decadent Libi-rnlistn and- Its Apologists" was the title of an address delivered in the Alexandra Hull Inst night by Mr. T. Brindle, of the Social Democratic Par'} - . i[r. Brindle's talk wa6 to- the effect that Labour people could have nothing to do with Liberals or Liberalism. . He tested Liberalism, as it is the fashion 1 oi' Labour-Socialists to test all political parties, bp reference to the cardinal teaching of "the class struggle"—between "the owners of the wealth of the world and the people who produce it." The ultimate aim of Labour was, he said, Socialism, and if in some respects the programme of tlio party fell snort of Socialism was lest the cautious might Income alarmed. And also by such steps as would show 111 present and future platforms of the.Labour Party would the ultimato, aim be reached. Some of his sentences may serve to show tho general character of' Mr. Urindle's talk: —' The difference -between the Liberals and ourselves is that they have had tho chance and we not. They, say that they are ready to do certain things now. They have had tho chance,.bjit..they.,did m\' do it. We have i.ot had-, the chance." "All.political parties are tlio same wlm they are not in offico. They always say 'We'll brin;,' von a New Jerusalem next time we come. . . "I can't imagine any Labour man opposing some of these proposals'in Sir Joseph Ward's policy. But we know that although he has put thorn there ho has no intention of currying them out."
