The marriage took piace in St. Saviour's Church, Lyt'tellon, on Thursday, August 1-1. of Miss Ituby Evelyn Buciianan, to lioutenant William lirnest Wilson, recently returned from tile front, il'iss Elsio Wilson was maid of honour, and Lieutenant D. Mansfield was best man.

A meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women "and Children was held yesterday, Lady Stout presiding. There wore also present Mesdamcs A. It. Atkinson, Jf. E. Ewen, A. Hoby, J. Kirkcaldie, tr. Ponsonby, and Dr. Aaa Paterson. Among the cases being attended to were somo lor maintenances, alleged neglect of ohildiren, and numerous other cases. Melba celebrated her 60th birthday in London on. May 28, when a reception"was given her at tho Guildhall School of Music. The guests wero personal.friends of the diva and Australian soldiers, whose training at the Guildhall School is being provided at tho cost of tho Government.

Among those H'Jio h«d tables on tho two days was Mrs, von Haast, who the first day ■was in charge of one with Mrs. Peacock, and yesterday with Mrs. Campbell. On Sunday evening the Navy League Girls' Choir will give a musical programme, and they will 'be assisted by well-known male singers of tho city.

Y.W.C.A. Notes. . - Addresses were given by the president and general secretary ol the Y.W.C.A. at the. opening service in tho Boulcott Street building last Sunday afternoon. The accommodation of the small hall was taxed to its utmost, and t.ho service wad evidently appreciated. Tomorrow the service will be hold in the Boulcott Street building, when the Rev. B. Hutson will be the speaker. On Thursday evening a large audience of young women and girls assembled to hear Dr. Palmer lecture on "The Nervous System." Tho doctor dealt witli the subject in such ail interesting way that everybody was able to understand and thoroughly' appreciated the time ho had given in preparation of the subject. Great appreciation was expressed at the closo of tho lecture, when questions dealing with the, subject were asked and answered by Dr. Palmer. Dr. ITarty has consented to give a health lecture next Thursday evening at the Y.W.C.A,, Fowlds iluildings, Herbert Street. Last Saturday was an eventful evening at the' Y.W.C.A., when tho girls and their young men friends flocked into tlie Boulcott Street building for the first time to take part in the house warming festivities. Tho programme . opened with a procession over the building from the lounge to the dining-room, and on through tho small hall and club-rooms. A good musical programme way planned by the Entcrlaimiieut Committer, and the small hall was packed with an appreciative audience. Dance in tho Drill Hall. A very successful dance, organised by the girls' branch of lhe Ladies' Auxiliary of the Navy League, for officers of Ii.M.S. New Zealand, was held' in the Drill Hall last evening. Quantities of flags suspended from tho roof and draped about the walls greatly transformed the appearance of the hall, and although there were very many dancers present there was no crowding owing to the "roominess" of the building. Investiture at Government House. Yesterday evening an investiture was held at Government House, at which His Excellency the Gorernor-General picsented Letters Patent of Knighthood, a badge of the Most Distinguished Order -of St. Michael and St. George, badges of the Most Excellent Older of tho British Empire, and of the Imperial Service Order, Military Crosses, the Royal Red Cross Decoration (second class), the Insignia of Lady of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England, and a badge of Honorary S'erviug Sister of tho same Order, to quite a number of recipients. Tho ceremony was held in tho ballroom in the presence of Her Excellency the Countess ot Liverpool, Admiral Viscount Jellicoe and Viscountess Jollicoe, and a number of guests. At. the conclusion of the investiture recipients and 1 guests passed into the drawingroom, and later gathered in the diningrcom, where supper was served. Lady Liverpool was in a gowii of black satin, with sleeves and draping of ninon. A diamond tiara was worn, also the ribbon and star of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and tho cross of Lady of Graco of the Order of St, John of Jerusalem. Viscountess Jellicoe wore a gown of saxe blue ninon, over satin, lhe corsage and sleeves being outlined with brilliants. Sho also wore a tiara and diamond necklace. Among the recipients of honours were Mrs. It. W. Loye, to whom was presented tho badge of the fourth class (0.8. E.), wearing a gown of black /satin and lace; Mrs. Mutu (also ot tho fourth class), black and silver; Mis. A. F, Boden, fifth class (M.8.E.), was in black satin and jet; Mrs. A. M. Corry, black with touches of blue; Sirs. E. X. Findlay, black satin and jet; Mrs. Mackay (Waliganui), pink taffetas; Miss J. Mackenzie (Masterton), pale 'bluio ninon; Mrs. H. Murphy, black silk; Miss Sybil iNathun, blue ninon, with touches of black; Miss M. liobin, dark red silk. Sisters J. A. Moore and Mrs, J. Kemp, who received the lloyal Ited Cross (second class), were in uniform. Mrs. Jfoorhouse, who received ths Insignia of Lady of Graco of the Order of St. John ot' Jerusalem in England, was in black satin, with touches of white, and Mrs. Balcombe Brown, who received the badge of Honorary Serving Sister of tho same Order, was also in black.
