WELLINGTON BOARD'S ANNUAL BEl'OllT. The annual report of the Wellington Catholic Education Board discloses very satisfactory results. Tho accumulated fund which at the beginning of tho year stood at l.'fe. Id., now stands at .£BBBS Is. 9(1., thereby adding tho handsome sum of -£916 lis. Bd. as. a result of the year's working. The principal source of this splendid result for tho year was dus to the handsome bequest of .l'25U made to the board by the late Mr. J. P. Hourke, and to the' strenuous efforts of the committee responsible for the organisation of the St. Patrick's Hay celebrations, Hexing Day picnic, Thomas jl.oore anniversary festival,-and the annual schools' social, which <added the satisfactory sum of -CB9l ss. to the fund. The principal items of expenditure this year were as follow:—lnterest on mortgages on school nroperty, .£285 55.; payment of school fees for pupils whoso parents are unable to contribute, .£'275 18s. 2d.; insurance premiums, lis. 10d.; rates and water, «£l.l Is. 9d.; repairs, etc., to school buildings and furniture and general maintenance, .£53 lis, 7d.; and cleaning, .£'Bs 15s. (id. In addition to this expenditure, which it is hoped will not be recurving, was incurred iu making up the loss of school fceo caused by the closing of the schools during the influenza epidemic. The amount under this head totalled .058. The accuiuulatfd fund is well invested in freehold security. T'lie sum of i' 2755 is now invested, earning on an average the sum of -£ICO per annum in interest, and applications for the balance available for investment are now being dealt with. All of the schools of the hoard had been examined by the Government inspectors, and in every ease a ?no<t favourable report had been received. Tt was a matter for congratulation''; therefore, that the children were taught -by such an excellent staff of teachers who, while njvin<r Ihe children d thoroughly sound mid Christian training, were also imnarling a secular training right up to the standard required by (lie Government.
