Herries, Minister of Railways: "Sir. Massey has asked me to reply to your telegram of yesterday, Owing to a slight improvement in the coal supplies, the Department hopes next week to be able to arrange for the carriage of school pupils to iheir homes by rail if it is necessary. Headmasters and principals should «nimunicalc with the Traffic Manager. I would have been glad to do it before, but the eoal position would not warrant any increase ill passenger Iraliie to the detriment of goods trf-.ffic, which was considered of more importance to the industries of the Dominion It is also proposed next week to start the naming of one through express per week each we.y between Christchurch and Dunedin."
