BALL AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE

Last evening Their Excellencies the Governor-General and tho Countess ot Liverpool gave ft dance at Government House in honour of the visit to Wellington of Admiral Viscount Jcllicoo and Ladv Jellicoo, together with the officers ot tho New Zealand. lucre was a very large number of guests, including several military as well as naval oiheers, and tho scarlet of the formers uniforms. seen for the first time since the war. added vivid touches of colour to tlio gathering. Spring flowers and flowering plants were everywhere to lie seen 111 the drawingroom, and m the ballroom Uie scarlet flowers of poinscttins massed at one end of the room were charmingly decorative in their effect. -three rooms wero set (wide for supper, the tables haling been arranged with tall pot plants, and in one of them a replica of tlie_f.cn Zealand in wliito icing was a striking feature of tho table decorations.
