One of. tho most forward animals at present in training at Hastings is Marnetotara, who lias been kept busy all the winter and is now in great trim. When the programme of the Horowheiiua Racing Club appears, a considerable ihcreaso in prize money will be offered for tho forthcoming October meeting. The Horowhenun Racing Club has plans ready for the erection of an up-to-date ■tntnlisntor house, but owing to the railway restriction on carrying building material!, it is doubtful if the stewards will ho a.l>]e to proceed with the building "befnro the October meeting comes round. There is at least one racehorse, owner who lias overcome the train difficulty to Christchurch without walking his horse there (says the Waimato "Tiroes"). He hired a motor lorry from an On.mam livery stable keeper, and on this erected a horse box and set off on a. non-stop run. to Christchurch. The contrivance may not bo as steady as_ a railway horse box, but with careful driving it should answer tho purpose. A Press Association telegram from Auckland states that, the Auckland Racing Club's stakes for tho coinine season of four meetings will tola! .£49,550. Tho Auckland- Cur> will bo valued at ,£3OOO.
