EDUCATION BOARD

REGULAR MEETING. The Wellington Education Board met yesterday morning. Mr. T. Forsyth presided, and member? present were: Messrs. ■I. J. Chirk, W. H. Field, M.l'., A. W. Hogg, C. J. Harkness,■ G. Tho statement of accounts set forth tho following items.—Receipts since last meeting, jElB,j-il 13s. Id.; payments made in accordance with Government regulations for the month of July, .£12,729 12s. Sd.; general payments for current month, .['9OS2 Bs. Id.; total amount of payments authorised, ,£21,822 os. 9d.; cash in bank on onrrent account, July 31, .£llOB 10s. 10d.; cash in bank on current account, August 10, .£169 os. lid. (unpre-scntcd cheques ,£3300 12s. 7d.); amount ou deposit, il4,000; Government grants due, August 16, i£H,636 18s. 3d.; maintenance of buildings—Government gnant for current year .£12,716. expenditure to date (current year) =C 6549 7s. Id., estimated cost of .works authorised up to July 10, 1918, not yet competed ,£32.95 2s. 5d.; relieving teachers' account, debtor balance, .62-49 14s. 7d.

The committee of tho Tanherenikau School protected against the proposal to close the school. After discission, the board carried the following resolution-.— "This board is of opinion that until the Government is prepared to organise an efficient and safe method of conveyance to centralised schools, the present system of th? board shall be continued, nnd no specific action be taken without full consultation with any committee that may b» concerned in tho closing of schools." The board received a report upon the destruction by firo of tho school at To Ore Ore. Tho 'board decidcd to adopt a recommendation tjfat a school 1» crected on the present, site, with tho condition that on completion of tho reading of Ihe district, the question of removing ■ the school perhaps two miles along the Taueru Road should be considered.
