THE OTAGO FLOOD
MILES OF COUNTRY UNDER WATER, jjp Telegraph—Press Aciod&tlon. Dunodin, August 20. As a result of the heavy rain of the last few days, the whole of the Taieri Plain is practically one vast expanse of water. A breach was made in the embankment at South Otokia during the night, and this rapidly widened to three chains, allowing an enormous volume of water to escape from the river and to inundate the lower parts of the plain. There is now probably twelve miles emiare of high-class pastoral and agricultural country under water.
