A BAD RAILWAY YEAR
NEW SOUTH WALES REPORT. (Rec. August 19, 7.20 p.m.) Sydney, August 19. The Railways Report stresses the necessity of resuming constructional work on the city railway, suspended sinco Jniie of last year. It says: "Within, a very short period tho present facilities will absolutely fail to deal with tho city's requirements." The report shows that tho increases in tho wages sheet for the year tot-aKed as the result of various industrial awards. Tho Chief Commissioner, in reviewing the position of the railway?, sounded a serious note of warning. On lop of the increased expenditure there was a .decreasing production since 1014. The tonnage handled oh the railways hnd gone backwards. The population had increased, but the production per head had fallen.—Press Assn.
