Tho/fortnightly meeting of the Wellington (Jitv Council was hold lixst night, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presiding. There were also present: Councillors G. Frost, 0. J. B. Norwood, AY. 11. Bennett, A. It. Atkinson. T. Forsyth, L. M'Kenzie, M. F. Luckie, J. 0. Sliorland, C. 11. Chapman, J. Glover, .T, Hutchison, P. Fraser, M.P., and It. A. Wright, M.P. The "Leaseholds, Legislation, and Libraries Committee recommended, and it was decided, that the City Solicitor bo authorised to bring down a clauso for insertion in the Reserves and Other Lunds Disposal Bill, at the coming session of Parliament, with reference to corporation leaseholds, granting power to the corporation where tie council and the lessees so agree in writing, to alter the renewable periods of 14 years to periods of 21 years in cases where leases have expired, but valuations of rent have not been made, and that the valuations of rent to be made shall be for 21-yenr periods in lieu of 14-year periods. The Eeserves Committee reported as follows:—(1) That they have issued instructions to tho Director of Parks and Re-serves to carry out the necessary planting works at Northland Park and on tho Town Belt opposite Wakefield Park. (2) That they have received a reauest from the Day's Bay Ratepayers' Association for a supply of trees for planting on the foreshore at Day's Bay, on the northern side of the wharf. The committee have agreed to supply a number of plants, the work to be carried out under the direction of the Director of Parks and Eeserves. (3) That they have received a request from the Jlataitai Horticultural Society for a supply of rose's for planting oil the banks of cuttings at Hataitai. The committee regret that there is no stock available in tho nursery, and are informing the society to this effect, and also that the Director of Parke and Eeserves will be dad to meet and advise the society should thsv so desire. * The report was adopted. .

Finance Committee. The following recommendations of the Finance and Property Committee vrtoe odopved(l) "That applicants for the diversion of a storm-water drain be informed that the council will bo prepared'to agree to the proposal on the condition that half cost of the,work is contributed." (2) "That an application for drainage works, io be carried out under' the deferred payment system be granted." 1 (3) "That authority be granted fori_ the sale, of a section of coruorntion land adjoining the Town Belt and fronting Tasman Street." (4) "That the offer of the Wellington' Harbour Board to pay an amount of ,£27(1 towards tho cost of the- biennial election held in. April last be, accepted.". _ (5) "That an application for gimiiijj rights on land recently acquired uy the council at .\Vadestown, be toot acceded to." (G) "Tlmt. authority be granted to the City Engineer for the purchase' of a lathe for the motor workshop."' (7) "That the Rt. John Ambulance Association be granted .the use of Uls Concert Chamber for their; annual meeting and display in first aid, subject to the cleaning arid lighting charges." v Milk Matters. The following recommendations of the Milk Commitite ucre adopted.—(l} "That they have .discussed the provisions of the. Wellington .City Milk Supply (local Bill) with representatives of the Wellington Dairy (Jo-operative Association; who reci nested thfe deletion of clause 20 relating to the establishment of factories within 30 miles of the city. After fully considering t tlie , inattei, the committee have agreed to the request, and the clause will be deleted from the Bill." (2) "That thev have received a deputation representing tho Wellington Dairy Employees' Union with respect to their claims for agreement or award for the council s employees, at tho City Milk Depot. The> committee are considering the matter, and will bring down a report at a later date."- , , . Outlying Districts. The following recommendatioiiii oi the Outlying. District* Committee were adouted: —fit "That the veahost of tho Eoseneatb and Oriental Bay Municipal Association for the erection of a drinking trough for horses close to the Station at Roseneath at an estimated cost of <£5 be (2) "That an application for permission- to lease a section of land just beyond tliß viaduot at Kolburn, known as the horse-shoe bend, for use as a coal yard, be refused.' (3) "That a property owner at Main lioad. Wadestown, who requested that the council should share in the cost of. erecting retaining walls in front of her house, be answered to-the effect that the walls have been built entirely for ber own benefit, and that the council can see no reason why they should pay any portion of the cost." (4) "That a letter be fewnrded to the various owners at Kelbui'n Parade pointing out to them that it is impossible to make a proper approach to their premises in any other manner than by a high level footpath through Springneld Terrace, and it will be necessary for the owners of the land to dedicate that portion to the oouncu for roading purposes.'' <
