INCREASE PROTESTED AGAINST.

NotWi. said he had been informed tlie.t eftorts would ue made next session to increase the totalizator permits, especially to country clubs. There were alarming developments in connection with the whole matter of racing. Mr. North moved: "That in view of the surreptitious attempt by racing clubs to secure legislation enlarging the gambling facilities and undoing the restrictions imposed by the considered legislation of 1910, (1) this council urges on the Prima Minister the impropriety ot treatin* a matter so vitally connected villi the well-being of the country by the present Parliament, and (2) instructs Us committee to present to the next meeting of the council a survey of the conditions of the State licensing of {rambling, and the probable elfects of amendments which the racing clubs are urging on the extension of the vice." The motion was carried unanimously.
